Anything you do is everything you do

Impact is intensity over time. An intensely good but very short event can have an equivalent positive impact as a mildly good event that lasts a long time.

Apply this to our actions. But first, remember that the ends cannot justify the means. Actions should be evaluated on their means and their intent, not their outcome. Whether an action is good is a function of its means and intent.

We can only execute means and formulate intents in the present moment. Therefore, we must evaluate the impact of our actions in the context of the present. And the surface of the present is vanishingly small.

When we return to the initial formula for impact we divide the intensity of our actions by the duration over which they occur. Since the duration over which we evaluate actions is zero (the surface area of the present where we formulate means and intent), all actions have an equally infinite impact.

I want to be a good person. I want to have a positive impact. All my actions have an equivalent impact. It is not enough to focus on the high-intensity actions, all actions need to have the same focus because they all have the same impact. Anything I do is everything I do.
